6-week intermediate course

Start making your own clothes or develop your sewing skills. Learn about fabric, adjusting patterns for the perfect fit, darts, pockets, zips, seam finishing, overlocking, hems, finishes and interfacing. Create a simple dress or top to fit perfectly.

It is recommended you start with making a simple dress, if you have not made clothes before. The intermediate 'Dress or top' course would be the ideal follow on course after making a skirt.

Pattern and materials required. Advice and information will be given on booking.

Some basic knowledge of using a sewing machine required, but no previous garment making knowledge necessary. The ‘Learn to sew – The basics’ is an essential starting point for absolute beginners. Suitable for those wishing to get back into sewing. Improvers also welcome to develop your knowledge and skills.

What you will do:
Prepare pattern, take measurements and make adjustments to pattern and cut out the dress or top.

Transfer darts and all makings onto the fabric using tailor tacks and nips. remove pattern, sew darts, start to sew the pieces together, neaten all seams, check fit and make any adjustments, insert zip and pocket (if needed).

Apply facing, attach interfacing (if using), insert sleeves (if required), neaten all edges, measure hem and hand stitch the hem, attach the neck fastening hook and eye or button.

Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available throughout the day.

£125 for 6 sessions each session is 3 hours approximately
